Melbourne’s Best Rooftop Bars

With an impressive mixture of food and activity, it’s no surprise that Melbourne's line-up of bars are just as impressive.

FEAST YOUR EYES ON MORE THAN JUST FOOD AND DRINKS

Melbourne is Australia’s melting pot of colourful culture, home-grown fashion, renowned world-class dining and an action-packed sporting calendar that draws in millions of travellers – and we love it.

With an impressive mixture of impressive food and activity, it’s no surprise that their line-up of bars are just as impressive.

To help narrow down the selection process, we have put together our favourite bars that not only quench your thirst, but also treat the eyes to stunning views of Melbourne’s city skyline.

NAKED IN THE SKY

285 Brunswick St, Fitzroy VIC 3065

A stones throw away from Melbourne’s city centre, you will stumble on Fitzroy’s local go-to rooftop bar situated on busy Brunswick Street.

Sitting above its counterpart, Naked for Satan, Naked in the Sky boasts dazzling panoramic views. Looking north you’ll be taking in views of the glorious cityscape, whilst south, views of charming Fitzroy rooftops. As we like to say, you’ll have views for days.

Competing with the incredible views is their even more incredible line up of house-infused vodkas. We’re talking, opium and rose, chilli, watermelon and mint, fig, salted caramel, green apples and cherry, turkish delight, and alpine chocolate to name just a few! But don’t worry, if you are feeling overwhelmed with the selection, like any decent bar, they have a tasting vodka platter letting you get a feel for a variety of flavours.

Turning to the food menu, get ready for some tough decisions because each option is just as good as the next! Our favourites include the mushroom parfait with poached pear, and onion jam, the twice-cooked pork belly, and of course a cheese lovers dream, baked camembert with truffle paste, chestnuts and ciabatta.

ROOFTOP BAR

Level 7, Curtin House 252 Swanston Street, Melbourne, Vic 3000

Rooftop Bar Melbourne is exactly how its name suggests. As one of the city’s more well-known watering holes, head here to enjoy a more relaxed, backyard barbeque-style atmosphere, complete with quality burgers and craft beers. With burgers including our favourites, the Mushroom Burger, Fried Chicken Burger and Kimchi Burger, you’re bound to leave with a belly full of satisfaction.

Its central location seven stories up guarantees some fabulous views of the CBD.

In the summer months, the open-air rooftop is transformed into a cinema playing a range of classic, art-house and new release films. Sit back on your own fold up lounge chair and take in the urban environment in this unique, awesome experience.

THE ROOFTOP AT QT

11/133 Russell St, Melbourne VIC 3000

As one of Melbourne’s newer spots to join the high-altitude bars of the city, The Rooftop at QT provides a sleek and trendy vibe that matches their glamorously styled décor. You’ll also need to dress to impress, with a sharp dress code in place. As QT describes it – everyday is a fashion show and Rooftop QT is your runway.

Planted on the 11th floor, you can’t help but adore the sweeping views of Melbourne’s ever growing sparkling skyline. With a popular cocktail bar, we’d recommend splashing out on the Rooftop G&T. A fusion of house-made elderflower syrup, cucumber soda, lime, rosemary and West Winds gin, this cocktail fits in perfectly with Melbourne’s growing gin scene.

JOHNNY’S GREEN ROOM

Level 2/293-297 Lygon St, Carlton VIC 3053

Jump a suburb over from Melbourne’s CBD and you will find yourself in Carlton, a city known for its Italian precinct, giving off those ‘Little Italy’ vibes. Make your way to Lygon street to find Johnny’s Green Room, a rooftop bar living above King and Godfree. Despite being only 2 stories up, this bar shouldn’t be overlooked in the hunt for those Melbourne views. With a spectacular 270-degree view towards the CBD, Johnny’s Green Room showcases the city’s glistening skyscrapers in one direction and the rolling rooftops of Carlton in the other.

A perfect place for after-dinner drinks, this rooftop is a fusion of classic Rome and Carlton-chic. Keeping in theme of the city’s Italian vibes, Johnny’s Green Room boasts Italian inspired snacks and a long list of cocktails and spritzers with an Italian spin, as well as a selection of European and local wine and beer. Our pick for a mouth-watering snack includes the cheesy arancini balls, and the flavoursome polpetti.
